Our core values are Trust, Compassion, Innovation, Excellence, Respect, Integrity and Fairness. We strive to providing open and honest expert orthopaedic care to our patients using the latest technology and innovative treatment methods.
Unrecognised contamination of the implants and instruments used in Surgery are being investigated to be a potential source of complications such as pseudoarthrosis, infections, implant breakage and unexplained pain from surgeries. Often we take for granted that CSSD process ensures sterility but it is not absolute or complete; not to mention its poor reliability and costs/impact of environmental damage involved in the process
Coauthors discuss new research that avoiding reprocessing altogether and shielding pedicle screws intraoperatively with an impermeable guard can prevent or reduce the degree of contamination and resulting SSIs.
Dr. Choi hosted Dr. David Noriega Gonzalez of Villadolid, Spain to share his operative cases and to collaborate together in expanding the horizons of spine surgery in particular with single use implants, improving the mechanics of modern instrumentations and robotics application.
Not all deformity of the spine needs to be corrected for the sake of correction when the spine is balanced! The principle of minimally invasive surgery or minimally disruptive treatments are based on delivering the maximal benefit to the patients with the least amount of collateral damage or harm associated with the intended treatment.
Dr. Choi and his team [Dr. Ruparel (past fellow), Dr. Dempster (MIA radiologist) and Mr. Rhee (medical student)] presented their work at the 12th International SOLAS Meeting in Miami and was awarded the young investigator award of the conference. The work was titled "Assessment of great vessels anatomy at L5/S1 with positional change"; which assessed the mobility and relationship of the great vessels and the L5/S1 disc axis/angle using MRI scans. This was a part of a larger continuum work that Dr. Choi is working on to improve and facilitate anterior-to-psoas surgery to deliver consistency and refinement in minimally invasive lumbar anterior fusion surgery! #worldclasswork#MIS_surgery #OLIF#ATP#Spineorthoclinic
Old chronic L1 crush fracture that has become a source of significant hump and cause of saggittal malalignment and pain. All MIS surgical approach in a single lateral decubitus surgery with Robotic guidance allows for restoration of native alignment. Dr. Choi believes in the philosophy of minimally disruptuve spine surgical methods when surgeries are necessary, of course as always...surgery should be the last choice after exhaustion of non operative care!
